Caterpillar Binding for Fasnacht

For nearly a week at the beginning of March, the city of Lucerne, Switzerland was a frenzy of colorful costumes, brass and drum bands, parades, festivities, food, and drink. It is Fasnacht time! Known otherwise as Carnival – or simply, the time to let it all hang out before Lent. This handy little sketchbook was inspired by the creative and sometimes creepy costumed characters that wandered the streets. Affectionately called the caterpillar binding, this coptic binding features rugged indigo dyed flax paper by Cave Paper drummed over boards and sewing with waxed linen thread. Dimensions 9.5 x 15.5 cm
